The Louvain400 website is up and running.

Louvian400 is part of the national celebration of "Shared Histories" which will also commemorate the Flight of the Earls in 1607 and the death in 1657 of the eminent Irish Franciscan Luke Wadding, founder of St Isidore's College in Rome.

St Anthony's College, the Irish Franciscan College in Louvain was founded in May 1607 by Florence Conroy, Irish Franciscan and aide to Red Hugh O'Donnell. The College was founded under the patronage of the King of Spain in Louvain (now Leuven) one of the most important universities cities in Europe. It became the focus of an energetic cultural and political project that had a significant influence on Ireland's relations with Europe. It was from St Anthony's that Mícheál Ó Cléirigh was sent to Ireland to compile the Annals of the Fours Masters and that the earliest printing press in the Irish language was established.
