03-03-2008

Dear Members,

The annual Irish Ball took place last Saturday 23rd of February.

The ICB Patron H.E. Ambassador Brian Nason and Ms. Geraldine Byrne-Nason, H.E. Ambassador Marie Cross and Mr. John Cross, and Brigadier-General and Mrs Liam Mc Namee joined us in welcoming 250 guests to the Conrad Hotel. They all went home happy having had a night of excellent food, great company and wonderful entertainment.

We also welcomed many of our regular sponsors; Mr. Pascal Barry who sponsored the pre-dinner drinks, Dawn Meats who supplied the beef, P.R. Belux the Jameson, and Diagio the Baileys. We also welcomed Mathias Meere representing Aer Lingus. We offer our thanks to The Conrad Hotel and to The Irish Dairy Board for their continued support.

This year Toni and Guy Brussels became new sponsors and we welcome them.

Tombola prizes were offered by Aer Lingus, The Conrad, Tourism Ireland, Waterstones and Rose Douglas.

We offer our sincere thanks to the above as an event such as this would not be possible without their continued and generous support.

This year "Damhsa", who come from Dublin, gave us a wonderful riverdance-style dance display. We were delighted to welcome George Lee who gave us hours of great music to dance to and, if we are lucky he might even agree to return next year!

Guests came from all over the world to be with us, from America, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Holland, Romania, Sweden, Scotland, Wales, our hosts Belgium, and of course, Ireland.

Attendees also joined us from The Irish Armed Forces, The Irish Embassy, and the Permanent representation, the European Commission, The Women's International Club, The Caledonians, Threshold, Eurocontrol, Toni and Guy Brussels and from many other facets of Belgian life.

For those of you that didn't join us I am sorry, for you missed an excellent opportunity to "fly the flag" and to enjoy yourself too.

And finally, as I said on the night, this is my opportunity to" do the Oscar thing" and thank all concerned.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Betty O'Connor for all her hard work.

Go raibh maith agat to the committee for their support and patience.

Go raibh maith agat to Derek who is co-opted for this event.
